Ealing Half Marathon ebike winner puts his prize up for charity auction

Pedro Das Gupta, who has been announced as the winner of the Mercedes smart electric bike, has put up his £1,800 prize for auction in support of Alzheimer’s Society, one of the race’s official charities.

Every Ealing Half Marathon 2015 runner got entered into a draw to win the ebike, and Pedro Das Gupta from Teddington was the lucky winner when his name was picked at random from nearly 5,000 finishers.

Pedro, who finished the race in a fantastic time of 01:40:01, commented: “The Ealing Half Marathon must be one of the best running events in London. Great organisation, support from the locals all the way around the course, helpful marshals and to top it all I’ve won a lovely ebike. I would like the ebike to be auctioned and the proceeds to be given to Alzheimer’s Society.”

Mercedes-Benz Brentford supported the Ealing Half Marathon for the third year running, and th event again provided the perfect opportunity for the team to get involved with the local community. The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT was the lead car for the race last September, and fourteen members of staff took part and raised over £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Trevor Webb General Manager of Mercedes-Benz Brentford said: “We’re always keen to support key community events and the Ealing Half Marathon helps us raise money for charity, not to mention helping to keep our staff fit! Congratulations to Pedro for winning the ebike.”

Sandra Courtney, Event Co-ordinator, Ealing Half marathon added: “We would like to thank the Mercedes-Benz Brentford team for their invaluable support and we are looking forward to working with them again in the future.”

The Ealing Half Marathon 2016 takes place on Sunday 25th September and will be celebrating its 5th anniversary. The race is well known for its huge community support and great atmosphere with runners travelling from all over the UK and abroad to experience the #EalingFeeling . A total of 8,000 places are available for 2016 and entries cost £36 for affiliated runners and £38 for unaffiliated runners.

Throughout December a donation of £5 will be made to Ealing Churches Winter Night Shelter from each race entry received.

A new charity structure was unveiled for the 2016 race, with Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK and CLIC Sargent announced as the Official Charity Partners.
